What to expect in a Treatment
“Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a calming and nurturing approach to healing through a listening touch. CST practitioners are known for their caring and non-judgmental attitudes. A whole body approach is taken and therefore can help with a wide range of health conditions on physical and emotional levels”.
During treatments clients remain fully clothed and are usually treated lying on their back. Treatments can also be done with clients lying on their side or seated on a chair. Clients often find treatments relaxing and rejuvenating.
During the first session I allow 20 minutes to discuss with the client their health concerns and develop a comprehensive case history.
A physical assessment, involving a gentle touch and a movement assessment may be necessary depending on individual needs. Treatments usually involve light contact on areas of the body including the head, base of the spine, abdomen and feet. The treatment is not always focused on the point of pain as other areas will invariably be affected by it through the connective tissues and the nervous system.
A consent form is provided on my website which I will go through at the beginning of the first session.
Initial response to treatment
Although the initial response to treatment varies clients have experienced the following:
- Increased clarity
- Calmness and ease
- A sense of being energized
- Feeling better able to cope
- A sense of unwinding
- A sense of connectedness
- An increased feeling of wellbeing and interest in life
- More able to meet challenges
- A sense of relief
- Connect with deep quietness
- Relaxed and rested
The therapeutic effects of CST may be felt throughout the whole body, mind and emotions.
During treatment clients may become aware of sensations of heat, tingling and pulsation. Clients sometimes fall asleep or settle into a state of deep relaxation.
Who can Benefit from Treatment
CST may help to support and balance various systems of the body through its holistic approach and contact. It can be beneficial for anyone from newborn infants to the elderly. Here are some examples where CST has been beneficial:
- Physical injury
- Stress and anxiety
- Body aches and pains
- Long standing problems due to old injury such as lower back pain, Whiplash, neck pain, old fractures, muscle and ligament sprains and strains
- Digestive upset
- Emotional trauma
- Difficult or traumatic birth – infants, children and adults
- Infant Colic
- Postpartum issues
I do not attempt to diagnose or treat any particular condition and I am happy to work alongside other medical professionals.
CST follows the belief that prevention is key, thereby treatments may not only help to alleviate the presenting symptoms, but may set the stage for future health and a more fulfilled life!
